The University School of Nursing and Physiotherapy San Juan de Dios (EUEF) has actively participated in the XIII International Congress on University Teaching and Innovation (CIDUI 2025), presenting two projects focused on the development of intercultural competences in the field of nursing.
In an increasingly multicultural world, healthcare is facing new challenges. The development of intercultural competences has become a key skill for healthcare workers, including nurses. However, according to studies, training for the acquisition of these competences is not unified in nursing curricula in the European Higher Education Area.
For this reason, lecturers from the EUEF, Isabel Baeza and Laura Visiers, together with lecturers from the Hanze University of Applied Sciences (Groningen, The Netherlands), have presented a project that has analysed the impact of an internationalisation activity at home through a virtual exchange project between universities in the European Higher Education Area.
This internationalisation activity, "Peer-to-peer dialogue in a multicultural context", aims to raise the cultural awareness of nursing students as a first step in the continuous process of acquiring cultural competences during training.
Presentation of the poster "Intercultural competence of nursing students in Spain: Training project".
In addition, at this meeting, the EUEF lecturers presented the poster "Intercultural competence of nursing students in Spain: Training Project" developed together with lecturers from the University of Castilla La Mancha and the University of Almeria. This work proposes a training programme in the development of intercultural competences, based on the educational model "MulticulturalCare", through joint work between the three Spanish universities involved.
Thanks to this educational prototype, teachers have been able to create activities based on this educational competence and pedagogical model and contextualise them to the needs of each subject, through the hierarchical selection of the components of the model.
