On November 15 and 16, the third edition of the Hackaton for Smart Industry, organised by the Chair for Smart Industry at Comillas ICAI, was held in collaboration with the Industrial Management of Mahou San Miguel.
This initiative, aimed at students from the School of Engineering (ICAI), hosted 8 teams made up of 4 or 5 students who had just over 24 hours to take up the challenge posed by the brewery, which was about how to automate and improve the efficiency of one of the lines of work of this factory through innovative and sustainable solutions.
The activity took place in the Collaborative Space of Alberto Aguilera, 32, where the students worked in a relaxed atmosphere to give free rein to their creativity and propose innovative ideas. During the working sessions, they could ask at any time any questions they had to the professionals of Mahou San Miguel who were supervising the challenge.
The students presented their solutions to a jury composed of five members coming from the brewery and two independent experts. The winning team was made up of: Marta Casas Avery, Miguel Cabello Reyes, Daniel Elechiguerra Batlle and Alberto Castillo Rodriguez. At the beginning of 2020, these students from Comillas ICAI will be able to present their solution to the Mahou San Miguel Industrial Committee at their corporate offices in Madrid.
The hackathon, based on a model of decentralised and collaborative innovation, seeks to identify and promote the young talent which will contribute to the digital transformation of the Spanish industry.
According to Bernardo Villazán, Co Director of the Chair for Smart Industry at Comillas ICAI, “one of our objectives at the Chair is to develop training and outreach activities which facilitate the digital transformation of the Spanish industry, researching to improve and make sustainable the industry of the future. This project, together with a large company like Mahou San Miguel, a benchmark in innovation, quality and industrial sustainability, contributes significantly to the training of young students and professionals.”
