The San Juan de Dios University School of Nursing and Physiotherapy - Comillas, together with Comillas Cast, has launched the fourth season of its podcast "Comillas takes care of you", with a first episode that talks about how professionals in a hospital are managed .
This initial episode features Emilio Borja, nurse and new Director of Nursing at Hospital Universitario San Rafael, and Ana Belén Jiménez, physiotherapist and coordinator of the Rehabilitation Area at the same centre .
"Behind each professional who cares for us there is a complex management system that coordinates shifts, human resources, care needs and clinical processes so that everything works," emphasises Emilio Borja .
He also points out that "good hospital management requires not only leaders, but also strategy".
Ethical and participative leadership
The episode highlights theimportance of human and ethical leadership: "A leader has to be a person who guides, who influences others. Someone who is there to serve and not to be served", says Emilio Borja.
For her part, Ana Jiménez adds that her area advocates participative leadership, where physiotherapists propose ideas and new projects that motivate them: "A satisfied worker is a smile on the patient's face".
Patient experience
Emilio Borja stresses that " patient experience is key in hospital management". Tools such as satisfaction surveys, the NPS index (which also measures patient satisfaction) or thank-you and complaints forms allow the quality of the service provided to be evaluated. In addition, checklists are implemented to ensure patient safety and minimise unforced errors.
Training with San Juan de Dios values
In this episode, the professionals also discuss the training of the students, who have been doing internships at the Hospital Universitario San Rafael since the second year of their studies. "From the moment they start university, they have a touch of San Juan de Dios. They have their values, they have a special sensitivity", emphasises Ana Jiménez.
