Last Thursday, 29th May, the students of the Degree in Physiotherapy at the San Juan de Dios School of Nursing and Physiotherapy - Comillas (EUEF) participated in the 1st Service-Learning Day "Forming part of an active citizenship", at the Autonomous University of Madrid.

During the meeting, the students of the subject Paediatric Physiotherapy, together with the teacher Marta Martín, shared a poster entitled "Technological Solutions in 3D Printing for people with disabilities", in which they showed the benefits and impact of their projects developed under the Service-Learning methodology (ApS).

This project, developed in the Fablab (Digital Manufacturing Laboratory) of the EUEF, aims to promote creativity, entrepreneurship and social commitment of the students, through the creation of customised devices with 3D printing that respond to the real needs of people with disabilities.

ApS Projects

Thanks to the ApS projects, students acquire skills and competencies in a real environment, with different groups and in different scenarios, which helps them to develop personal skills and prepare for their future incorporation into the labour market.

On this occasion, they have created tools to improve the quality of life of children with neurological problems.

On the one hand, the student Marcela Marcial has designed a personalised device to help a girl with neurological difficulties who needs support to handle her motorised chair.

On the other hand, the student Diego Ruiz has developed a bipedestador in which the different grips can be changed. This tool is intended for children with neurological problems at the San Rafael Special Education School.

Laura Fernández, for her part, has designed a splint that facilitates the opening of the hand of a girl with right hemiparesis.

These devices not only represent accessible and personalised solutions thanks to 3D manufacturing, but also demonstrate the social commitment of the students and their active involvement with the needs of their environment.
