What is the Master?

The aim of this CAP master's degree, as it was called before, is to complete the training of a degree or bachelor's degree in subjects related to the teaching profession. To this end, it will provide solid training in adolescent psychology, didactics, methodology, educational legislation, knowledge and use of technological resources, attention to diversity, tutoring and educational organisation, all framed in a culture of collaboration and work in teaching teams.

As part of the teacher training program, the internship for a period of at least 150 hours is a basic pillar in the training of future teachers. The aim is for the student to gain a reflective and critical experience of educational practice in the school environment through participation in the life of the centre, always accompanied and assisted by a tutor from their speciality.

This master's degree in teacher training offers the following specialisations: English, Geography and History, Spanish Language and Literature, Philosophy, Biology and Geology, Physics and Chemistry, Mathematics, Technology, Educational Guidance and Physical Education.

Professional and academic opportunities

The Master's Degree in Secondary Education and Baccalaureate Teacher gives access to the doctorate according to current regulations and qualifies students to work as teachers of Secondary Education and Baccalaureate, Vocational Training and Language Schools, being from the academic year 2009-2010 an essential requirement to be able to teach at these two educational levels.

ORDER ECI/3858/2007, of 27 December, which establishes the requirements for the verification of official university degrees that enable the exercise of the professions of Teacher of Compulsory Secondary Education and Baccalaureate, Vocational Training and Language Schools.

Graduation profile:
Students who complete the master's degree in teacher training are professionals with a solid training that combines psycho-pedagogical, didactic, methodological and technological knowledge with a humanising attitude to teaching that enables both comprehensive attention to students in ESO, Baccalaureate, Vocational Training and Language Schools and work in teaching teams and individual and family tutoring, fulfilling the requirements to be a secondary school teacher. This profile has been analysed in the various monitoring committees of the master's degree itself.

Within this competence framework, their professional projection is oriented towards the following areas:

  • Each class has its own tutor, whose function is to integrate the student into the group and to pay attention to their academic performance. Furthermore, at Comillas, the teaching system is distinguished, among other characteristics, by the personalised attention and the fluid and permanent relationship between teachers and students.

  • The teaching system at Comillas is especially oriented towards the relationship with the reality of companies, institutions, organisations and professional practice. The Internship and Employment Office is responsible for providing students with internships related to their studies in order to enrich their training. In the 2017-18 academic year, 6,296 student internships in companies were managed.
    In addition to these internships managed by the Internship and Employment Office, all degree courses have a significant number of compulsory external internships as part of their curriculums.

  • The Internship and Employment Office informs, guides and collaborates in the insertion in the labour market of recent graduates or in the projection of the professional careers of Comillas graduates, for which it has an online tool that directly connects candidates with 5,078 companies with which Comillas maintains a relationship. During the 2017-18 academic year, 1,838 job offers were managed. Of the total number of graduates from the 2018 graduating class, 93.22% are employed, either working or furthering their studies, within six months of completing their studies.
