The CESAG celebrates its graduation ceremony

The CESAG (Centro de Enseñanza Superior Alberta Giménez), affiliated to Comillas Pontifical University, held its graduation ceremony for the 2023 class. The rector of Comillas, Enrique Sanz, SJ, presided the event and awarded the stoles to the recent graduates of the degrees in Education, Communication and Sports Sciences.

There were different speeches in the ceremony led by Dr. Ángeles Durán. The first to speak was Llorenç Bauzá, alumni of Education and current deputy mayor of the city council of Palma: “remember that education is a continuous journey. As ambassadors of the CESAG, your leadership and innovation are essential for the future of Palma”, he reminded them.

The director of the CESAG, Julia Violero, took the floor to highlight three issues: “social polarisation, artificial intelligence and mental health”. On the first matter, she reminded her graduating students that they will be “more authentic, the more capable” they are of “welcoming those who are different”. She pointed out that artificial intelligence “will transform our behaviour and the way we work”, and therefore “it is necessary an ethical regulation”. Lastly, Violero warned of the increase in mental health problems among young people and stressed that these “do not only belong to those who suffer from them, we must all feel co-responsible and reflect”. Then, he invited the graduates to be “the person who listens and is attentive to the care of others”.

The rector was in charge of closing the event by congratulating the now alumni, and reminding them the value of their training: “At the CESAG we value the desire to improve, the commitment, personal responsibility, initiative, creativity and the search for truth” he said. Finally, he asked the graduates to maintain their bond with the university: "You can count on us forever. Count on our eternal reference point, Saint Ignatius of Loyola: in our word always goes our person and our truth".

The new graduates received their stoles and, some of them, read an ethical commitment. Andrea Arévalo and Ana Conrado represented the Bachelor’s Degree in Education; Aina Escandell and Damián García represented the Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, and Cosme Mayol and Marc Bestard represented the Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Activity and Sports Sciences.

After the ceremony, which concluded with the university choir performing the traditional university chant Gaudeamos Igitur, a Spanish wine was served to the graduates and their families.

The CESAG is the first and oldest private university centre in Mallorca. It has its origins in the first Escuela Normal de Maestras de Baleares founded in 1872 and offers degrees in Early Childhood Education, Primary School Education, Journalism, Audiovisual Communication, Advertising and Public Relations, Nursing and Physical Activity and Sports Sciences. It counts on dual degrees in Early and Primary School, Journalism and Audiovisual Communication (five years). In total, it has already graduated 49 classes in Early and Primary Education, fifteen in Journalism and Audiovisual Communication, seven in Advertising and Public Relations and four in Physical Activity and Sports Sciences. In total, more than 4,300 graduates.
