This Wednesday, Comillas began the season of Lent with the celebration of Ash Wednesday with various Eucharists on its campuses. The day was part of the campaign "DESPEGA, a time to de-centre, a time for Lent", which invites the university community to reflect on the meaning of this liturgical season.

At the Alberto Aguilera campus, the 12:30 Eucharist was presided over by Jaime Tatay, SJ, Vice Rector for Identity and Mission and Alumni and Students, and concelebrated by Ignacio Cervera, SJ, José María Guibert, SJ, Sergio Gadea, SJ, and Gustavo Monzón, SJ, Vice Rector of the University Community of the Catholic University of Uruguay. In his homily, Tatay stressed that "Lent is a time to work on discernment, not only leaving aside the bad, but always looking for the best". He also reminded that the life of faith should not be measured only in quantitative terms, but should focus on the intention of the heart, seeking to align our will with God's will.
At the Cantoblanco campus, the 12:45h celebration was presided over by Lluis Salinas, SJ, while the 8:30h Eucharist was celebrated by Augusto Hortal, SJ and concelebrated by Salinas. Masses were also celebrated at the Ciempozuelos and San Rafael campuses at 11:00h, as well as a final Eucharist at Alberto Aguilera at 20:30h.
The "DESPEGA" campaign invites the entire university community to experience Lent as a time to unsettle oneself, to question what one is really looking for in life and to dare to go out of oneself to go towards others, the world and God. During these forty days, inspiring messages will be distributed throughout the campus to accompany this reflection and spiritual growth.
