The San Juan de Dios School of Nursing and Physiotherapy - Comillas (EUEF) has officially welcomed the first year students of the degrees in Nursing and Physiotherapy. The welcome day was held simultaneously at the three campuses of the school - Paseode la Habana (Madrid), Ciempozuelos and Bormujos (Seville)- and brought together nearly 500 students to begin their four years of university training in the field of health.
At the Paseo de la Habana campus, the event was presided over by the deputy director Blanca Egea, accompanied by Gerardo Díaz, managing director of the San Juan de Dios Foundation, the institution in which the EUEF is integrated. In his speech, Gerardo Díaz underlined the strength of the union between the Comillas Pontifical University and the Hospitaller Order of Saint John of God: "They are two institutions that have a strategic alliance to work in the field in which you have decided to train. A great university and one of the most important health and social institutions in the world, with a presence in 80 countries around the world".
He also dedicated some motivating words to the new students: "You have chosen one of the most beautiful professions in the world, but also one of the most demanding because others will always expect excellence from you. Being a nurse or physiotherapist will be an extraordinary professional and personal development for you".
On the other hand, the opening of the course at the Ciempozuelos campus was led by its recently appointed deputy director, María Simarro. Likewise, the deputy director of the Bormujos campus, Almudena Arroyo, was accompanied by the director of the School, Julio de la Torre, who emphasised the strong spirit of service in caring for people, especially the most vulnerable, and the "commitment of our university through these professions with a training that allows, even in the most extreme conditions, to seek the best care for the sick". In addition, Julio de la Torre recalled the involvement of students in volunteer activities with a strong social commitment, both in our country and beyond our borders, encouraging new students to participate in university life with fullness and generosity in terms of being the best for the world and"knowing how to serve" as a hallmark of the institution, both in the figure of St. John of God, in the field of health, and St. Ignatius of Loyola in the field of higher education.
With this event, the EUEF marks the official start of the 2025/26 academic year and a new class of students begins a key stage in their preparation as future health professionals.
