The Research Group in Physical Activity and Sport Sciences (GICAF), belonging to the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (Comillas CIHS), has been selected in the call 2025 of the Spanish National Sports Council to receive a grant for research networks in Sport Sciences.
The initiative will be led by Álvaro López Samanes, one of the main researchers of the group, and will be developed in collaboration with lecturers from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (Comillas CIHS) and the "San Juan de Dios" University School of Nursing and Physical Therapy. The central axis of the project will be the promotion of scientific-technical activity in the field of sports nutrition applied to sportswomen.
The project is part of the NAMUD Network (Red de Nutrición Aplicada a la Mujer Deportista ), created in 2023 with the aim of promoting scientific exchange and the updating of knowledge from a multidisciplinary perspective, based on scientific evidence and with an international vocation. Currently, the network is made up of researchers from 20 Spanish universities -both public and private- and 5 foreign universities.
NAMUD seeks to have a direct impact on its target audience: sportswomen of all ages, performance levels and disciplines, promoting nutritional habits that favour both their health and their sporting performance.
Among the activities planned, the celebration of the International Congress on Sports Nutrition Applied to Sportswomen, which will take place at the Cantoblanco Campus of Comillas on 27 and 28 November 2025, stands out.
