Comillas CIHS reinforces its international projection with a teaching stay at the ISIT in Paris

Pilar Úcar, lecturer in Language and Literature in the Department of Translation and Interpreting and Multilingual Communication at Comillas CIHS, attended ISIT Paris Panthéon-Assas, invited by the Department of Modern Languages, to give two lectures aimed at students of International Relations. The content of the lectures focused on the analysis of both contemporary political discourse and speaking techniques, and addressed the role of today's speakers and their ability to persuade in the political and media context. The students took part in open debates on the ethics of discourse, the power to convince and persuade, and the transformation of political messages into authentic mass spectacles.

Úcar highlighted "the value of the experience due to the direct exchange with French students" and the methodological change it meant for them: as opposed to a more traditional model based on the master class, the students participated actively in analysing the veracity, objectives and communicative intention of political speeches. The lecturer also emphasised that "this approach favours critical thinking and strengthens intercultural and, above all, academic relations between the two institutions". Úcar also recalled that Comillas maintains a constant exchange with the ISIT, both receiving French students and sending its own students, especially in the field of Translation and Interculturality.

The ISIT is a Grande École founded in 1957 at the heart of the Institut Catholique de Paris. Born with an initial vocation in translation and interpreting, the school has evolved to become a reference institution in the training of professionals for international Degrees, with Programs in law, politics and intercultural communication. Its mission, defined as "The European School for International Careers", is fully in line with the Comillas educational project, and the agreement between the two institutions reinforces the internationalisation, academic mobility and European projection of the university.
