Comillas closes the debate season with the 7th edition of the Asun Almajano tournament
A unique competition in our institution, which follows the British Parliament format
21 March 2024
Comillas Pontifical University is holding its last competition of the debate season, the Asun Almajaro tournament, a very special event in memory of our alumni. This competition has very particular characteristics, as it follows the British Parliament format.
4 pairs, two for and two against, faced the following question: this house prefers a world in which religions present their gods as amoral beings rather than morally perfect.
Rodrigo Sánchez-Bleda and Samuel Fernández Iruzubieta; Guzmán Gila and Irene Uriarte; Arturo Bernárdez and Claudia López Bombín; and Leonardo Amor and Gabriela Estévez; prepared for the debate 15 minutes before it began. As they faced rebuttals from their opponents, each participant presented their arguments with clarity, respect and firmness.
After a hard-fought tournament, the pair formed by Arturo Bernárdez, student of the Master's Degree in Industrial Engineering and MBA, and Claudia López Bombín, first year student of the Bachelor's Degree in Mathematical Engineering and Artificial Intelligence, emerged victorious. Luis M. Almajano, father of Asun Almajano, presented the prize together with Pablo Carbajosa.
Congratulations to all the participants, but especially to the winners who not only won the trophy but that, thanks to their victory, will represent Comillas in the World Universities Debating Championship in Panama in December.
