Doctorate Program in Power Systems
Ensuring access to affordable, secure, sustainable and modern energy for all, and taking urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts, are among the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (2015-2030).
What does this program consist of?
The PhD program in Electrical Energy at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería (ICAI) will allow you to research and contribute to the achievement of these objectives. You will have the opportunity to join a research group of international prestige and you will be able to collaborate in applied research projects with key companies and institutions in the energy sector.
Research to achieve access to affordable, safe and sustainable energy for all.
The quality of our own faculty is complemented by the participation of professors from some of the most prestigious universities in the world, creating an international environment in which many students from other countries also participate. In addition, you will be able to spend time at internationally renowned centres and obtain the official recognition awarded by the Ministry, such as theInternational Mention in the doctoral degree or the Thesis in co-supervision with a foreign university. Research Lines
This focuses on research work related to the analysis, control and modelling of electrical power systems, as well as the analysis and development of models for the simulation and optimisation of the electrical networks of the future.
These lines are developed through applied research projects and in collaboration with leading companies and institutions in the sector. In addition, our PhD students work in an international environment, joining the research groups of the Institute for Research in Technology (IIT) or one of our Chairs. All this creates an ecosystem that combines teamwork, academic excellence and internationalisation, and ensures a real transfer of knowledge to society.

Study Plan
Training activities must be carried out by all students in the Doctoral Program and are not subject to academic evaluation. Some are mandatory and others are optional. These activities provide training to students in certain specific aspects of Research in general. Their cost is included in the enrollment fees for the Program. The types of training activities planned in this Doctoral Program are:
The list of optional activities is not closed, it can be completed with others not mentioned that are part of the work of the doctoral thesis (e.g. books, book chapters, patents, etc.).
All these activities are carried out in parallel to the research work, so their planning must be agreed between the PhD student and his/her supervisor(s).
- Calendar of Training Activities organized by the ICAI School of Engineering.
In order to learn more about the procedure and steps of the doctorate, you can consult the Quick Guide to a PhD at Comillas.
The additional training courses are typically master's level courses that will be mandatory for those doctoral students who are assigned to them upon admission to the program. The need or not to take these courses is determined by the Academic Committee of the program according to the student's admission profile.
The additional training courses are established individually for each student according to their profile and the research area that they will develop

Research Line 1. Modelling, analysis and control, and smart grids.
This focuses on research work related to the analysis, control and modelling of electrical power systems, as well as the analysis and development of models for the simulation and optimisation of the electrical networks of the future.
Energy regulation and economics and decision support systems.
This line of research focuses, on the one hand, on the design and analysis of regulatory measures that make it possible to incorporate strategic, economic and environmental considerations in the management of the energy sectors and, on the other hand, on the development of models that serve as effective aid in decision-making and in the technical-economic analysis of the generation, transport and distribution systems of the energy sector.
These lines are developed through applied research projects and in collaboration with leading companies and institutions in the sector. In addition, our PhD students work in an international environment, joining the research groups of the Institute for Research in Technology (IIT) or one of our Chairs. Claudia Uguina Vázquez
Student of the double degree in International Relations and Global Communication.
I have been doing an internship in the international relations department for two consecutive years, which has allowed me to meet exchange students from all over the world. On a professional level, I could say that I have broadened my network of contacts, while on a personal level, what I have gained most from these internships is being able to put into practice the knowledge acquired during my degree. In addition, being surrounded by professionals who value and encourage your efforts is rewarding.

My experience with the internship is proving to be challenging, both in terms of learning and personal demands. I am doing my internship at PKF ATTEST with several classmates and our experience has been pleasantly satisfactory. Combining the internship and the Master's degree, I can't find a better way to exploit all the knowledge I am acquiring.

5th year Business Administration and International Relations student
The OPE Service has helped me to find an internship in the field I wanted, in which I have been able to develop professionally; but, above all, they have catapulted me to have that experience that many companies are looking for nowadays. In addition, the whole team is always willing to help in any way they can.

Alumni of Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and Master's Degree in Human Resources Management. Business Partner at Calidad Pascual
I met the OPE Service at the Cantoblanco campus at the beginning of the century, which is indicative of how long the University has been concerned about the future of its students, and we are still in contact today, which shows the strength of the relationships that the University is able to create through its Internship and Employment Service. Thanks to the Service, I have been able to start my professional life. After completing my Master's degree in 2004 through the Service, I was selected for several internship contracts, until I finally passed a selection process at Calidad Pascual, S.A., the company where I continue my professional activity today, 18 years later.

Alumni of the Master's Degree in Access to the Legal Profession
My personal experience with the OPE Service has been very positive. When we start the Master's Degree in Access to the Legal Profession, many questions arise about starting a professional career in the legal world, so having support within the University to listen and advise you is vital to be able to make the right decisions. I am currently a Graduate in the Litigation and Arbitration department of Cuatrecasas (Madrid), and the experience to date could not be better. The human quality, the complexity of the matters dealt with and the working environment make Cuatrecasas an unbeatable place to learn and understand the work of a lawyer.
