What can the Master offer you?

The Master's Degree in Railway Systems responds to the demand for specific higher training in the railway sector, integrating the teachings of its different fields of activity to train professionals who understand the system as a whole. It is a type of comprehensive training that is very difficult to achieve otherwise, even for people with extensive professional experience in the sector. Themain companies and administrations in the railway sector collaborate closely, providing teaching staff, practical sessions in railway installations and professional internships working on real projects.

This master's degree has obtained the European EUR-ACE accreditation, which identifies and internationally recognises the quality of degrees in the field of engineering, after passing a rigorous accreditation process. This process has been promoted by the National Agency for Quality and Accreditation (ANECA) and the Spanish Institute of Engineering.

The seal recognises the quality of the entire training process (teaching staff, facilities for laboratory practices, professional practices, management and organisation, updating of contents in a professional context and job placement). Students will benefit from the European and international recognition of the EUR-ACE seal, and the possibility of accessing better job offers abroad.

For those Mexican students accepted in this program and whose studies are financed by FIDERH, Comillas will grant them a bonues equivalent to 10% of the total cost of the studies.

Professional orientation. Graduate profile:
The program provides students with the necessary knowledge to subsequently develop their activity in the various fields of activity offered by the railway sector: signalling and control systems, rolling stock, track infrastructure and electrification, management and operation of railway services, and maintenance.

Career opportunities for graduates include railway infrastructure management administrations, railway service operating companies, manufacturers of fixed and on-board systems, manufacturers of rolling stock, and engineering companies dedicated to railway studies and projects.

The training provided by this master's degree is also suitable for those working professionals in the railway sector who wish to complement their professional profile as part-time students (completing the master's degree in two consecutive years), or by taking individual modules as specialised training.

Access to the doctorate:
The Master's degree in Railway Systems allows access to the Official Doctoral Program of the ICAI School of Engineering, for the completion of a thesis in Railway Systems and the award of the official doctoral degree.

Comillas ICAI

The tradition of the School of Engineering (Comillas ICAI) in the training of engineers began in Madrid in 1908. Today, Comillas ICAI is a polytechnic school whose academic activity focuses on Industrial and Telecommunications Engineering.

  • Because Comillas studies are in high demand and places are limited, the best candidates have to be selected through admission tests.

  • Each class has its own tutor, whose function is to integrate the student into the group and to pay attention to their academic performance. Furthermore, at Comillas, the teaching system is distinguished, among other characteristics, by the personalised attention and the fluid and permanent relationship between teachers and students.

  • The teaching system at Comillas is especially oriented towards the relationship with the reality of companies, institutions, organisations and professional practice. The Internship and Employment Office is responsible for providing students with internships related to their studies in order to enrich their training. In the 2017-18 academic year, 6,296 student internships were managed in companies.
    In addition to these internships managed by the Internship and Employment Office, all degree courses have a significant number of compulsory external internships as part of their curriculums.

  • The Internship and Employment Office informs, guides and collaborates in the insertion in the labour market of recent graduates or in the projection of the professional careers of Comillas graduates, for which it has an online tool that directly connects candidates with 5,078 companies with which Comillas maintains a relationship. During the 2017-18 academic year, 1,838 job offers were managed. Of the total number of graduates from the 2018 graduating class, 93.22% are employed, either working or furthering their studies, within six months of completing their studies.
