It has been 40 years since we started teaching Social Work at Comillas Pontifical University. The faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (Comillas CIHS) and the Comillas Alumni Service wanted to celebrate it with an emotional event for all the graduates in Social Work, from the first class in 1983 to the last in 2022. An event celebrated in Cantoblanco that gathered more than 150 alumni.
The dean of the faculty, Susanne M. Cadera, welcomed them and pointed out the importance of the degree in Social Work for the university, specially for Comillas CIHS.
For her part, the director of studies, Almudena Juárez, talked about the evolution of Social Work, which has gone from being a diploma to a degree. They watched testimonials from alumni recalling their time at the university and the significance it has had in both their professional and personal lives.
Carmen Jiménez spoke on behalf of Comillas Alumni. She expressed her gratitude for the good welcome of the invitation and recalled how important alumni are for the university. Finally, she encouraged the attendants to be promoters of the Comillas Alumni Social Work Club, a meeting point for all social workers at Comillas where they can share good practices and address topics of interest to the profession.
Jorge Uroz, director of the Department of Sociology and Social Work, talked about the future of Social Work and how the European Higher Education Area opens the doors to Master and PhD studies. An example of this is the Official Master’s Degree in Social Work in the Healthcare Environment. It starts the next academic year and enables students to work in the healthcare environment.
The celebration ended with a cocktail party enlivened by a DJ. The attendees enjoyed a night full of music, reencounters and good times.
