The Teaching innovation Support Office at Comillas Pontifical University organised its annual conference dedicated to Best Practices in Teaching. The conference, which was opened by the Vice-Rector for Academic Strategy, Innovation and Internationalisation, Paloma Bilbao, focused on Service-learning as a teaching innovation methodology.

During her speech, the Vice-Rector for Academic Strategy, Innovation and Internationalisation highlighted the importance of innovation in teaching. “It is a matter of survival”, she said. “Service-learning has been applied in this institution for many years and there are many success stories. It seemed very appropriate, now that we are asking ourselves how to improve, to take as a reference the success story of this methodology to implement it in all university curricula," he concluded.

Elsa Santaolalla, lecturer at Comillas CIHS, spoke about her experience with Service-learning in the teaching of mathematics. Victor Martínez and Mónica Marión, lecturers at the Pontifical Javierana University Cali, talked about the FORJA Project, an initiative based on this methodology and which seeks social change and peace.

Comillas, which recently signed its adhesion to the Declaration of Canarias on Service-Learning in Higher Education, has historically been linked to Service-learning, a methodology that brings the university closer to society, solving real problems.

This edition of the conference saw a 50% increase in the number of presentations compared to the previous year. There was also an increase in the number of attendees, both in person and online. Both the conferences and the presentations will be available to all lecturers at Comillas so that they can consult them whenever they consider necessary.
