ICAI School of Engineering (Comillas ICAI) at Comillas Pontifical University showed once again its research ability by organising and hosting, together with the European Association for the Development of Renewable Energy, Environment and Power Quality (EA4EPQ), the 21st edition of the International Conference on Renewable Energy and Power Quality (ICREPQ).
The inauguration was presided over by the Vice Rector for Research and Teaching Staff, Mariano Ventosa, and counted on the presence of the Director of Comillas ICAI, Antonio Muñoz; the President of ICREPQ, Manuel Pérez, and Manuel García, Director of Energy Policy and Mines of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge and alumni of Comillas ICAI. During his speech, García spoke about the milestones and challenges of the energy transition in Spain. "We are an example of how to integrate renewable energies in a safe way", he said.
For his part, the Vice Rector talked about how Comillas contributes to this transition: "The university has various chairs to address the issue of the decarbonisation of energy from a deep and multidisciplinary perspective, because this is not merely a technical or economic problem, it is something that affects people".
The conference featured 142 talks (out of the 246 that were proposed) and five plenary sessions. The plenary sessions were given by leading figures from both the industry and the university, and dealt with current issues such as the European electricity market, hydrogen, the Middle East electricity system, island systems and the 100% renewable electricity system. Luis Rouco Rodríguez, lecturer at Comillas ICAI, presided over the local organising committee, which counted on the collaboration of several lecturers from Comillas ICAI and researchers from IIT.
