Nuccio Ordine, philosopher, lecturer and man of letters who was invested honoris causa doctor by Comillas Pontifical University in 2022, has been awarded the Princess of Asturias Award for Communication and Humanities. The award, which was announced this morning in Oviedo, recognises the importance of education, lecturers and humanities, something Ordine has defended in many books and essays.

"A world without humanities would be an inhuman world: to make humanity more human we need disciplines that are called useless, such as music, literature, philosophy or art, because although they do not produce economic profit, they are important to nourish the spirit," he said during his stay in Madrid to receive the honoris causa. "We have to study the disciplines that we love", said Ordine at Comillas, who will receive the award on 23 October in Oviedo.
