The faculty of Law at Comillas Pontifical University, in collaboration with Uría Menéndez, Fordham University and the European Corporate Governance Institute (ECGI), held a tribute conference to lecturer Henry Hansmann, organised by the dean of the faculty, Abel Veiga, and Maribel Sáez Lacave, lecturer and researcher from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and member of the ECGI. Under the name “A European Tribute to Henry Hansmann”, it celebrated the lecturer’s work trough a series of round tables that addressed his influence on issues related to law, business and economics.
Rafael Sebastián, lecturer at Comillas ICADE and partner of Uría Menéndez, opened the conference and talked about Hansmann's fundamental role in Corporate Law.
The tribute counted on the presence of prominent guest speakers from some of the world's most prestigious universities. The first session, moderated by María Gutiérrez, lecturer at the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, featured Mariana Pargendler, lecturer at the Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV) Law School in Sao Paulo and at the New York University School of Law; Sergio Gilotta, lecturer at the University of Bologna; and Andreas Engert, lecturer at the University of Berlin.
In the second conference, moderated by the Vice-Rector for Academic Strategy, Innovation and Internationalisation of Comillas, Paloma Bilbao, took part Richard Squire, lecturer at Fordham University School of Law; Jonathan Lipson, from the University of Temple; Amir Licht from Harry Radzyner Law School, Interdisciplinary Center Herzliya; and Carsten Gerner-Beuerle, lecturer of Commercial Law at the University College in London. The last conference was moderated by Fernando Gómez, member of Uría's counsil, and counted on the presence of Benito Arruñada, lecturer at the University of California.
Henry Hansmann is professor emeritus of Law at Yale Law School. His job, very influential for European scholars in Corporate Law, has contributed to better understand organisational forms and company law structure.
