Basic and general skills and abilities:
- Acquire advanced knowledge and demonstrate, in a highly-specific context or a context of scientific and technological research, a detailed and substantiated understanding of the theoretical and practical aspects, and of the methodology of work, in one or more fields of study.
- Know how to apply and combine their knowledge, their understanding, their scientific base and their problem solving abilities in new and imprecisely defined environments, including multidisciplinary contexts, applicable to both researchers and highly-specialized professionals.
- Know how to evaluate and select the appropriate scientific theory and the precise methodology of their fields of study to formulate judgements based on incomplete or limited information, including, when necessary and pertinent, a reflection on social or ethical responsibility linked to the solution that is proposed in each case.

Specific skills and abilities:
- To have a general vision of the structure and functioning of Electric Power Systems, as well as of future trends, from a technological perspective, in Electric Power Systems.
- To know the models of the components of the Electric Power System (generators, transformers and lines) and of the appropriate techniques for the analysis of Electric Power Systems in permanent and transitory states.
- Understand the importance of decision support models in the planning of Electric Power Systems and why it is necessary to articulate planning and operational decisions according to a temporal and functional hierarchy.
- Explain what the functions of the different models used are in the planning and operation of Electric Power Systems in a market context, and know which are the most appropriate optimization and simulation techniques for each case.
- Understand the regulatory function and the instruments available to regulate monopolies and to promote the defense of competition.
- Know the economic principles of the markets and the different approaches for the regulation of monopolies and oligopolies, and the differential aspects of the Electric Power Industry.
- Be able to transfer the theoretical concepts of Microeconomics to studies and analyses of real Electric Power Markets.
- Understand the accounting and financial set-up of a company and know the usual mechanisms of liquidation in the sector, as well as being able to perform investment analysis in an Electric Power Company and understand the main aspects of strategic management of the Electric Power Sector.
- Carry out, present and defend, once all of the credits in the Study Plan have been obtained, a Master's Thesis of a professional nature in which students can demonstrate that they have acquired and assimilated their skills and abilities from teaching. This thesis should be an original exercise, carried out individually, and defended in front of a Tribunal of Professors from the field.
