The rector of the university, Antonio Allende SJ, opened and closed the event by highlighting the value of this type of initiative, pointing out that "debate is not only a confrontation of ideas, but also an encounter, respect and learning".
In this special edition, Pablo Carbajosa, from the International Relations Service, gave a historical review of the Rector's Trophy, recalling its trajectory and evolution over the years as a key formative space for generations of students. Alejandro Molina, coordinator of the Debate School, explained the dynamics of the tournament and acknowledged the effort and preparation of all the participants.
The question at the centre of the debate was: "In developing countries, should citizens living in areas prone to natural disasters have greater political weight in the decisions that affect them? A highly topical question, prepared in collaboration with the Integral Ecology and Comillas Solidaria teams, which allowed us to reflect on justice, equity and sustainability from different perspectives.
The team formed by Leandro Nieto Rodríguez and Lucía Sarmiento Olmos, students in the second year of the dual degree in Law and International Relations (E-5), won the title of champion of the tournament. The runners-up were Ramón Castilla Montes, second year student of the dual degree in Business Analytics/Bachelor in Business Analytics and Law, and Paola Juliana Ramírez Vólquez, first year student of Law (E-1).
Congratulations to the finalists, the winners and all the participants for keeping the passion for debate alive! Here's to 25 more years!
