On Wednesday, 24 April 2024, the Faculty of Theology at Comillas Pontifical University held its information session, both in person and online.

The event began with a presentation by the Dean of the Faculty of Theology, Francisco Ramírez, SJ, who gave a historical overview of the Faculty. Founded in 1880 as a seminary, Comillas made it possible for seminarians without great resources to have access to theological studies. It was in 1904 that the Holy See granted Comillas the possibility of becoming a University and offering ecclesiastical degrees. In 1966-67, Comillas moved from Santander to Madrid. Now, the Faculty of Theology reaches 120 years of service to the Church and to society.

The values of our University, utilitas, humanitas, iustitia and fides, make Comillas a leading ecclesiastical institution. The Faculty of Theology offers teachers-tutors, in dialogue with reality, with continuous learning and a large number of skills and qualifications that make the student of the Faculty of Theology a person in dialogue with reality based on faith.

The Faculty of Theology is also recognised for its academic, professional, research and student training excellence by the prestigious QS World University Rankings 2024 by Subject, positioning us as the 1st Faculty of Theology in Spain and 29th internationally. Within the excellence that characterises the Faculty, the number of students increases every academic year.

The academic offer of the Faculty of Theology is wide-ranging, both in terms of official degrees and our own. Specifically, we offer the Bachelor's Degree in Theology (Bachelor's Degree in Theology) in the morning, in the afternoon and by distance learning.

We also offer the Degree in Theology (Postgraduate - Master) with five specialisations: dogmatic and fundamental theology; spiritual; moral and pastoral; Sacred Scripture and Biblical Theology (the latter by distance learning). Another postgraduate course is the Master in Ignatian Spirituality, which focuses on Ignatian formation and the Spiritual Exercises. The Postgraduate in Biblical Spirituality is our own degree which aims to offer fundamental theological-spiritual keys and which we offer in both face-to-face and online modalities.

The presence in the media, on social networks and through the monthly newsletter service is a good example of the Faculty of Theology's commitment to making theology and its social relevance known. In the same way, for the last two years, the Faculty has been offering a pilgrimage to the Holy Land with the help of our professors.

As a new development, last academic year saw the start of the Bachelor's Degree in Theology by distance learning at the Faculty of Theology at Comillas, aimed at pastoral agents, members of monasteries of contemplative life and human peripheries, as indicated in the Apostolic Constitution Veritatis gaudium and the recent Instruction for the application of the distance learning modality in ecclesiastical Universities/Faculties (2021). Another novelty was the online degree of Specialist in Biblical Spirituality and, for the next academic year, it will start the Bachelor's degree in Biblical Theology at a distance.

Pedro F. Castelao, Vice-Dean of the Faculty, presented the Bachelor's degree (Master's) in Theology. In addition to the already classic specialities in classroom mode in our Faculty (dogmatic and fundamental; spiritual; moral and pastoral; Sacred Scripture), the new distance learning academic offer of the degree in Biblical Theology has been added.

Carmen Márquez, Head of Studies of the TUP Programme, spoke next. She emphasised the commitment of the Faculty of Theology to the training of the laity, with the same level of demand and academic proposal as the morning programme, and the great initiative of this Programme to organise trips and training courses that complement the academic level worked on. Professor Márquez pointed out that the Faculty of Theology at Comillas is always committed to Theology in dialogue with the world and, especially, with the peripheries, as Pope Francis encourages us to do.

Finally, Pedro Zamora, Coordinator of the distance programmes of the Faculty of Theology, reinforcing the personalised accompaniment of the students and with training proposals adapted to the virtual environment. These programmes include the Bachelor's Degree in Theology and the degree of Specialist in Biblical Spirituality.

As a novelty for the next academic year and now announced by the Faculty of Theology, Professor Zamora presented the Bachelor's Degree in Biblical Theology at a distance (official Master's Degree).

The event concluded with a question-and-answer session from the audience, both in person and online.
