The San Juan de Dios - Comillas University School of Nursing and Physiotherapy (EUEF) held its 20th Career Guidance Conference in the Antón Martín Assembly Hall at the San Juan de Dios Ciempozuelos Centre. The event was attended by prominent experts who advised the students on the different professional opportunities available upon completion of their studies in Nursing or Physiotherapy.

The day began with a speech by Blanca Egea, former deputy director of the Ciempozuelos Campus, who took the opportunity to bid farewell to her post and welcome her successor, María Simarro, the new deputy director of the campus. Both were accompanied by David Fernández-Ayuso and Elisa Benito, directors of the event.

Throughout the morning, various workshops and informative talks were held, in which the students were able to learn first-hand about the experiences of professionals from both the public and private sectors, as well as former students of the School. Among the most important activities was the workshop "Orientation and resources from the University to the world of work", given by the Internship and Employment Office of Comillas University, in which the participants learned how to draw up an effective curriculum vitae.

Likewise, highly relevant subjects were dealt with, such as International Cooperation, with interventions by Maaike Wehmeyer and José María Márquez, from the NGO África Directo. The possibilities for job development in the public system were also presented, with the participation of the Official College of Nursing of Madrid and the Official College of Physiotherapy of Madrid, as well as the opportunities within the military field, presented by Silvia Martín, nurse captain of the Central Defence Hospital "Gómez Ulla" in Madrid.

On the international level, Professor of Nursing Alfredo Serrano shared his experience as a nurse in different contexts outside Spain. On the physiotherapy side, former student Alejandro del Estal gave an account of his professional career abroad.

There was also a session focused on the preparation for the Internal Nursing Resident Examination (EIR), led by María Rodríguez, lecturer at the EUEF, and the importance of postgraduate training was discussed. In this regard, the School's official master's degree programmes were presented, such as the University Master's Degree in Palliative Care, coordinated by Antonio Ramos, and the University Master's Degree in Biomechanics and Sports Physiotherapy, led by Carlos López.

Within the activities focused on professional practice, guidance was offered on legal aspects and job opportunities in the public system, by Ricardo Duque, academic tutor and primary care physiotherapist. In addition, the possibilities of professional development in the private sector within the network of centres of the Hospitaller Order of Saint John of God were analysed, with the participation of Beatriz Holgín, Hospital Universitario San Rafael, and Pedro Fernández, Centro San Juan de Dios Ciempozuelos.

There was also a round table dedicated to trade unions and professional associations, in which Ana de la Fuente and Noelia González, representatives of the Nursing Union SATSE Madrid, took part. During their intervention, they offered a practical view on labour rights, professional conditions and the role of trade unions in the defence of the profession.

In the private sphere, other professional opportunities in both Nursing and Physiotherapy were also discussed, with contributions from Blanca Egea, deputy director of the EUEF, and Diego Prieto, physiotherapist and businessman.

The conference was brought to a close by David Fernández-Ayuso and Elisa Benito, who highlighted the importance of this type of initiative to help students plan their professional future.

Once again this year, the EUEF Career Guidance Days have offered students an enriching opportunity to explore the many career opportunities in the healthcare field and to receive direct advice from professionals with extensive experience in their respective sectors.
