During his lecture, the vice rector of Comillas called for greater scientific literacy against "negationism"

Federico De Montalvo, Vice-Rector for Institutional Relations and Secretary General, professor of Constitutional Law and expert in bioethics, was recently inducted into the Santa María de España Academy of Pharmacy in the Region of Murcia at a ceremony held at the School of Industry of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena.
In his lecture, entitled "Constitutional limitation of anti-scientism: Can the law save Galileo", he called for greater media and scientific literacy to combat denialism, which has been particularly relevant and impactful in recent years, both in terms of the social debate on climate change and the questioning of the benefits of vaccines as an essential public health tool.
De Montalvo, who was president of the Spanish Bioethics Committee during the pandemic, concluded that the fight against anti-scientism and its expressions "must be articulated by paying more attention to the receiver of the messages than to the sender, through an effective policy of promoting media and scientific literacy", although "in certain exceptional contexts where the message may have a direct impact on the rights and freedoms of citizens, or where the sender has a special status by virtue of his or her profession, it may be permissible to limit anti-scientific expressions".
