How does the identity of a territory determine the way politics is done?

The Faculty of Law (Comillas ICADE) at Comillas Pontifical University hosted the visit of the President of the Xunta de Galicia, Alfonso Rueda, to participate in the series of speeches "Law, justice and society", meetings which, as the Rector of the university, Antonio Allende, SJ, recalled, seek to bring social debates closer to the university. In addition to the rector, the president of the Xunta was accompanied by the dean of the faculty, Abel Veiga.

During his speech, Allende recalled that this type of event expresses "the vocation of an institution such as Comillas Pontifical University to be open to society". The Dean, for his part, introduced the series by highlighting the opportunity to "open the university to debate and dialogue, always based on tolerance"."This initiative arises from the need to offer arguments and debates on all aspects that interest us as a society," he said. In his introduction to the speaker, Veiga acknowledged that Alfonso Rueda has a very personal way of doing politics, "which places value on words".
Alfonso Rueda began his speech by stating that he did not believe in a single way of thinking or in bloc politics. "Nor do I believe that in order to be right you have to make more noise. You have to have principles. A politician has to do politics but also management, because that is what we are there for", he acknowledged.
The President of the Xunta then offered some of the keys to the so-called "Galician style as a political model", the title of his speech. "We are not a land of extremism. Debate is an instrument for achieving things, not an end in itself, and I believe that this defines the style of politics in Galicia", he recalled. "Most Galicians are moderate. We do not want monolingualism and that makes a difference with respect to immersion in other territories. Coexistence and the ability to reinforce the signs of identity, leaving each one free, is one of the characteristics of our identity", he said.
During his speech, Rueda also defended the regional funding model, noting that "decentralised management and solidarity between territories have made it possible to manage services better without spending more"; he defended the lowering of taxes, and focused on the housing problem, "the great challenge of the coming years". To conclude, he described some of the characteristics of the Galician way of being that permeates politics: "We like the right amount of noise, we believe in the word, we don't like extremism and we are a welcoming autonomous community. A peaceful community that welcomes everyone, just as I have been welcomed here today", he said gratefully.
Finally, a question and answer session was opened during which the many students present in the hall were able to discuss certain topical issues with him.
