From 9 to 11 August 2024, the Latin American Congress on Synodal Theology, organised by the Latin American and Caribbean Episcopal Council (CELAM), took place in Bogotá (Colombia).

The Faculty of Theology at Comillas was the only Spanish Faculty to be invited to this event, and Professor Carmen Márquez was in charge of participating and contributing her reflection on the synodal path.

The Congress was attended by the Spaniards Luis Marín de San Martín, under-secretary of the Synod, Eloy Bueno de la Fuente, Synod Father, José Sols Lucía, coordinator of the group of professors of Christian social thought of UNIJES (Jesuit Universities of Spain), and the Professor at Comillas, Carmen Márquez Beunza.

Several media have echoed this event, such as Vatican News or Vida Nueva.

Professor Carmen Márquez Beunza holds a PhD in Theology, belonging to the Department of Dogmatic and Fundamental Theology and an expert in ecumenism and ecclesiology. She is currently the Head of the TUP Programme (Bachelor in Theology - evening programme) and, from 2021, consultant to the Episcopal Subcommission for Interconfessional Relations and Interreligious Dialogue.
