Identidad e Inmigración [Identity and Immigration]

Summary
People's identity is subject to constant changes and transformations, even more so in a world in which values, ideas and people are being replaced by a continuous dynamic flow. Migratory flows are another dynamic and fluid element that forces people from different cultures to meet, coexist and cohabit. This book aims to provide a contextualized explanation of one of these identity encounters that are happening today between Peruvians and Spaniards. This research was carried out by Jesús Labrador Fernández.

La intervención social con los colectivos inmigrantes: modalidades, agentes y destinatario

Summary
The presence among us of a rising ratio of a foreign immigrant population since the 1990s has presented new elements in social life which could prove problematic, both for immigrants and society itself, leading to situations of pauperization, even injustice, which require action geared towards preventing, channeling or alleviating the circumstances at the source of the situations.
This book aims to provide those who carry out social intervention in public and private institutions with guidance on how to more knowledgeably address the actions intended for immigrants.

Inmigrantes y vivienda en la Comunidad Valenciana [Immigrants and housing in the regional Community of Valencia]

Summary
This publication is the outcome of the study conducted by the IEM on the problems related to immigrant access to housing, and the quality and location thereof in the Regional Community of Valencia. It not only aims to take stock of the type of housing immigrants in the Regional Community of Valencia live in, but also to discover how the type of housing they live in influences their movement in public work spaces, bureaucracy, entertainment, thereby "rubber-stamping" all of their actions. The structuring strength that the conditions of poor housing gain in contexts where immigration proves problematic is explored.

  • The FRA calls for stronger protection in migration hotspots to guard against human trafficking

Human trafficking has became a grave concern in the European Union. Thus, stronger protection safeguards are needed in migration hotspots to provide appropriate, gender  specific and child sensitive assistance and protection for trafficking victims. This needs, among other measures, improving the identification and vulnerability screening procedures to ensure timely support and referral of trafficking victims, cooperating with support groups who can offer specific assistance and providing specific safeguards for unaccompanied children. Such safeguards could significantly contribute to EU-wide efforts to address human trafficking and raise awareness.

  • The FRA declares deaths of migrants as one of the many challenges concerning fundamental rights that needs to be addressed

In 2014, there was an unprecedented number of migrants who died trying to cross the Mediterranean Sea to reach Europe. As a result, State members should consider offering greater possibilities of legal entry into the EU to people in need of international protection, as an alternative to the irregular dangerous entry. This is one of the conclusions gathered from the annual report drawn up this year by the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA), which examines the development in many spheres within the whole of the European throughout 2014.
