Last weekend our Comillas Class Leaders enjoyed a meeting where they were able to learn, from different experts, the importance of leadership, and discovered new tools to get the most out of every situation.
The event began with a welcome from the Vice-Rector for Alumni and Students, Belén Urosa, who highlighted the role of students as role models both inside and outside the classroom. Next, Irene Maestre, Director of Comillas Comunidad, and Virginia Tolín, Director of Comillas Alumni, explained the skills and functions that define a Class Leader and put on the table the important objective that they have ahead of them as multiplier agents and dynamisers of the Comillas network.
Continuing with the day, the students were able to listen to four excellent alumni give different points of view on how to be a leader. Paz Gómez, executive coach and psychologist at La Voz Kids, explained the importance of self-knowledge and personal development.
After her, Jorge Iglesias, Customer Success Manager at IBM and high-performance athlete, told his story of leadership through diversity and the value of adapting, in order to give the best version of oneself in every situation one faces.
Julia Sánchez, executive director of the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía and the Albéniz Foundation, stressed that "listening helps coexistence" and how important it is to know the strengths of each member of a team.
To end the block of talks, Javier Aznar, writer, communicator and creator of the podcast Hotel Jorge Juan, related his personal experience and pointed out that "sometimes the paths you take in your life and where they can lead you can be fascinating, you just have to be curious and not be prejudiced".
To round off the event, the students enjoyed a session led by Musical Thinkers. They invited the students to give free rein to their creativity, taking their leadership into action, making them experience through music and performance how to lead from different perspectives, with different roles and with people they hardly knew.
"Do things and things will happen to you." "Don't be afraid of failure and take things with humour." "Listening to each other and collaborating with each other makes us come up with more creative ideas." These were some of the ideas that the Class Leaders highlighted from the meeting. A day that created community, forged bridges of active listening and that, without a doubt, brought together some of the leaders of the present and future of Comillas.
