Technological Bethlehem: The birth of Jesus, at the Iguazu Falls

Sixth edition of the technological Nativity Scene at the School of Engineering (Comillas ICAI), inspired on this occasion by the Jesuit Guarani missions near the Iguazú Falls (Argentina, Brazil).

The construction of the Nativity Scene involved around twenty people from the school, including PDI, PAS and students, grouped into various teams according to their area of work: fluids, forestry, video and design, lights, figures and structure.

The vegetation team, includes Jaime Tatay, SJ, lecturer in moral theology and co-director of the Chair Hana and Francisco José Ayala in Science, Technology and Religion at ICAI. Jaime also led the identity of the theme chosen for this year's Nativity Scene: "We decided to set it in the Iguazú Falls because it is close to the Jesuit missions of Paraguay and Argentina, which was a historic opportunity for the meeting of civilisations and the development of peoples; and also because it is a place that expresses many of the tensions and problems we are experiencing today, both social and environmentally: with water, the loss of biodiversity and the effects of climate change on vegetation and water, as well as with indigenous populations".

In setting up the Nativity Scene, we have tried to represent characters and situations that would be in this area: tourists, a luxury hotel, indigenous people, native fauna and Jesuit missionaries, without forgetting, of course, the most classic and most important characters; the Three Wise Men and the Nativity, the Virgin Mary, the baby Jesus and St. Joseph.
