International Workshop ‘South-North dialogues on children of migrants’

27th-29th April 2015, University of Leeds (UK)

This workshop brings together scholars from Europe, Latin America and the US who undertake research on/with children and young people of migrant descent. It aims to share country case studies (state-of-the-art or innovative perspectives) and open cross-disciplinary dialogues on the theoretical, empirical and methodological frameworks being developed across different countries and academic contexts in the Global South and North.

Ms Maria João Barroso Hortas (Universidade de Lisboa): “Children and young people of migrant descent in Portugal: experiences and expectations to promote school integration in the Metropolitan Area of Lisbon”

Dr Martha Montero-Sieburth (University of Amsterdam): “The Undiscovered South in the Migration Studies of the Netherlands: the Case of Latin Americans and in particular Mexicans”

Ms Noemi García Arjona (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid): “Children of migrants, cultural diversity and sport: The case of France”

Rosa Mas Giralt (University of Leeds): “Children and youth of migrant descent in the UK: considering the challenges of superdiversity”
