The Official Master's Degree in Human Resources is offered by the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, at Comillas Pontifical University (ICADE), through ICADE Business School.

The Master's program responds to a growing demand from numerous organizations and companies that consider their human capital to be their most valuable, and often irreplaceable, asset. People management thus becomes a strategic and crucial matter that is directly linked to business results.

Applicant profile:

The Official Master's Degree in Human Resources is addressed to college graduates with little o no work experience who, independently of their studies, which to steer their careers towards management of persons.

In order to take this Official Master's Degree, a previous university degree is necessary.

Students interested in pursuing this career must be inclined to the following skills and interests:

  • Interest in other people
    Interpersonal relations are the key element of Human Resources Departments. Being aware of the needs and interest of collaborators is the cornerstone of human capital management.
  • Social skills
    Effective communication with other persons is one of the basic working stills: active listening, respect to the dignity of the other person, persuasion, and ability to effectively transfer information both orally and in writing are some of these skills.
  • An interest on the business and corporative environment
    The context where the previous skills shall be carried out is a very specific environment where business objectives or client satisfaction must guide all work with persons.
  • Interest in management, leadership and team building
    The fundamental work of Human Resources employees is to make others work. From this point of view, dynamics in work teams and, especially ,in leadership are some of the most relevant interest aspects of this field.
  • Analysis and interpretation abilities.

Management of human resources requires integration of technologies that support the most common decision-making processes. Interpretation and analysis of data yielded by these tools offer an added value for the activities of any company.

Admission requirements:

Candidates must hold or be able to justify that they will soon be awarded a Bachelor's or Licentiate Degree, Diploma, Degree in Engineering or in Architecture, or equivalent degree from foreign university (in the latter case, if in another language, it must be translated into Spanish by an official translator).

Admission process and criteria:

Students are admitted in this programme according to the following criteria: 

  1. Academic record
  2. Written expression test
  3. English test
  4. Excel test
  5. Interview of the candidate with the programme director and/or coordinator


  • Academic record plus English test results: 50%
  • Written expression test plus Excel test: 25%
  • Personal interview: 25%

The programme director, based on the tests that they are to submit to candidates, shall issue a report declaring whether such candidates are eligible or not.  Admission to the programme shall depend on the Dean of the School of Human and Social Sciences and on the Director of ICADE Business School.

Financial support:

Any Mexican students admitted onto our Master's program whose studies are funded by FIDERH will receive a discount from Comillas equivalent to 10% of the total fees of the course of study in which they are enrolled.

  • The Master's Degree in Human Resources Program's overall objective is for its students to acquire and develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to meet the demands of managing the human resources in any organization.
  • The aim is to train human resource experts and managers that are aware of the importance of people in any organization; are able to understand the companies and institutions in a global manner; design and incorporate human resource policies; and manage people.
  • These professionals must have a good understanding of and apply the following values: Transparency, honesty, respect and solidarity and contributing to the progress and competitiveness of business organizations.

Methodology and Assessment Methods

The teaching methodology is based on an eminently practical and active learning model that is designed to adapt the educational objectives, content and learning strategies.

Teaching is based on interactive presentations by the lecturer, seminars, conferences, tutorials, simulations, use of IT tools to complete individual and group assignments, case studies, lecturer-directed study and assignments, oral presentations and self-directed study.

The teaching style and methodology are primarily based on the direct contact time between the lecturers and the students; hence, at least 80% attendance of classes is required in order to successfully pass the various areas or subjects that make up the program. The lecturer will keep track of attendance to their subject's classes, keeping the program director and coordinator informed at all times.

In order to be awarded the Master's Degree in Human Resources, the students must pass assessments covering the study program through a mixed evaluation system: 

  • On the one hand, the lecturers of each of the subjects assess whether the student has achieved the learning objectives for each of them. This assessment, which takes place throughout the program, aims to verify that the student has mastered the subject content and developed the specific related skills. The evaluation of the student's knowledge will be performed by employing methods of continuous assessment and examinations. The grade will also takes into account the participation and interest shown by the student, oral presentations, and the scores of individual and group work carried out throughout the course.
  • On the other, the evaluation is supplemented with the oral defense of the Final Master's Project or Dissertation, which must be passed for it to be weighted along with the other grades.


This internship consists of 240 hours of work in any of the companies or organizations with which Comillas Pontifical University has educational cooperation agreements in place.

Moreover, the group and individual work, comprising 60 hours, carried out as part of the internship will be monitored within the company. Such monitoring is essential, as it will entail direct, active and individualized development of the competencies and skills that the student employs during the internship. 

The Master's program is not intended to be a mere supplier of interns. Instead, the presence of these mediators between the university and the company means that both institutions grow and learn from each other.


  • A1 - Establishing goals, identifying necessary resources, planning required activities and assessing own progress and performance.
  • A2 - Managing information efficiently, obtaining it either from secondary sources (scientific or expert literature, as well as other relevant documentary sources) and primary sources, i.e. from other persons.
  • A3 - Preparing verbal and written reports and meaningful audiovisual presentations.
  • A4 - Being capable of cooperating with other persons for a common goal, being at the same time capable of leading or steering teams when required by the situation.
  • A5 - Being capable of selecting the most appropriate strategy to address a particular problem or problems based on an assessment of a specific professional situation and considering the available resources and own competences.
  • A6 - Having the necessary competences for establishing and maintaining relationships with other professionals, both from the same area and from any other area.
  • A7 - Updating and developing their own competences (knowledge and skills) in consonance with the changes in their professional area and the industry standard and requirements, as well as national laws and international regulations.
  • A8 - Identifying the ethical side of any corporate activity, considering the outlook and interests of the different stakeholders and guaranteeing respect of ethical principles in decision making.
  • A9 - Developing efficient two-way communications, considering the needs and intentions of others.
  • A10 - Developing creative thinking and acting skills, looking for a new way of doing things.

  • B7 - Being able to design the most appropriate structure to achieve the company's goals.
  • B8 - Knowing and being able to apply the most widely known and used HR Management System in most national and transnational companies: the Competences Management System.
  • B9 - Acknowledging the fundamental role of an appropriate recruiting and selection for the global success of an organization.
  • B10 - Being aware of the pivotal role of employee training to achieve the objectives of an organization.
  • B11 - Knowing the benefits of performance management both for organizations and for employees themselves.

  • B19 - Knowing labour regulation, analysing in general terms any provisions regulating this issue.

  • B25 - Being aware of the importance of project-based dynamics in today's organization.
  • B26 - Knowing the pivotal role of benchmarking on current corporate and professional environments.

  • B28 - Being familiar with professional practice, independently of whether it is carried out for the owner of a small business or in the framework of a larger public or private organization, including any financial, operational and employee-related aspect.

The goal of our internships is to provide our students with an opportunity to alternate theoretical learning with professional practice, and to enter the labour market at the conclusion of the programme having acquired at least some professional experience.

Professional practice in the form of an external internship is a compulsory subject in the Official Master's Degree in Human Resources syllabus, that the students must take. As a compulsory subject, it is be subject to evaluation and assigned a mark.

The Syllabus contemplates that internships are carried out during the second year of this Master's Degree, but the exact date shall depend on two factors:

  1. The student's preferences.
  2. The specific needs of companies offering internship posts.

How to obtain an internship.

  • Companies collaborating with the Universidad Pontificia de Comillas let us know their internship opportunities.
  • The Internship Department shall send to the relevant companies the resumes of those students who, in principle, match the company's requirements.
  • Once resumes have been received, the companies shall go on with their recruitment process.

Outdoor Training

The main goals of outdoor training is to encourage integration, team work and cohesion between groups, as well as to promote motivation, "professional" competitiveness and a results-oriented mindset. The Outdoor Training experience provides a different, innovative and dynamic training, which attempts to develop high-performance groups with a clear inclination towards innovation and creativity.


Chance´u is a knowing-yourself initiative in which an student undergoes a competence assessment focused on their integration in the labour market. This programme includes preparation in the most demanded competences in modern corporations, a 360 degree assessment and a mentoring process, all with the aim of developing the student competences.
