The Official Master's in Financial Statement Auditing and Advanced Accounting is offered by the ICADE Business School at Comillas Pontifical University. Its main objective is to provide specialized professional training in auditing and accounting. It is a combined Master's, lasting one year if taken full-time or two or three years if taken part-time.

Duration and Calendar

The academic year of this master's degree starts on October 1, 2018 and ends in July 2019. In order to allow students to reconcile academic, work and private life, it can be taken as a full-time course (one academic year) or as a part-time course (two or three academic years).

Number of Credits

60 ECTS credits to obtain the Official Master's qualification.

12 ECTS credits for completing the supplementary training module.

The Schedule will be initially from Monday to Thursday afternoon, from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm. The schedules can be modified depending on the agreement with certain Audit firms.

Applicant Profile

This program offers the content required by the ICAC (Institute of Accounting and Financial Statement Auditing) for the theoretical training of auditors so that they can register on the ROAC (Register of Financial Statement Auditors). Therefore, this program entitles the student to total general exemption pursuant to the Resolution of 12 June 2012.

Consequently, the program is aimend at Bachelor´s Degree and Licenciate Degree holders who have a professional interest in Auditing and Accountancy, as well as those professionals who are already working in these areas and would like to qualify for the exemption to be placed on the ROAC or specialize in this professional field.

The admission process will consist of assessing the academic background of applicants, as well as the attitudes and aptitudes they possess relating to the professions of an auditor or accountant.This analysis will consist of looking at their academic transcript and an interview with the academic program Director or the person appointed by them. Previous work experience will be positively valued. After "previous work experience". Have a level equivalent to B1 or higher.

Requirements

To be accepted, applicants for the Official Master's Degree in Financial Statement Auditing and Advanced Accounting must be able to provide proof of (or show that they will soon be awarded) the following:

  • An Official Bachelor's Degree issued by a Spanish university (or by a higher education institution within the European Higher Education Area)*
  • A Bachelor's Degree compliant with education systems outside the European Higher Education Area that is not accredited*
  • A Licentiate Degree, a Degree in Engineering or a Degree in Architecture compliant with the university system existing before the one set forth by Royal Decree 1393/2007.

*Preferably in the fields of Economics or Business Administration

Admission Process

The admission process is started when the Admission Request is received, the student's academic record and the documents submitted by them are analysed. The admission process is the same for in-person and for semi-in-person regimes. The persons in charge for the admission process are the Master's Degree Director and the Coordinator, or the persons appointed by them.

Admission criteria are as follows:

  • Having obtained an official university degree in Spain, issued by an a Higher Education Institution of the European Higher Education Area that makes an student eligible to take a Master's Degree in the country where such degree was issued.
    • Students holding a Licenciatura (four to five year-degree), Architect's Degree or Engineering Degree pursuant the previous university regulations no longer valid after Royal Decree RD 1393/2007 came into force may also be eligible. However, degrees in areas of Economy or Business Administration are strongly preferred.
    • Students presenting a degree (preferably in the areas of Economy or Business Administration) issued by education institutions outside the non-approved European Higher Education Area may be exceptionally eligible.  In this case, the request for admission must be addressed to the Rector, who, after being informed by Deputy Sub Committee of the Post-Graduate Degrees Committee, shall make a decision pursuant to the current regulations. The report by the aforementioned Commission shall decide whether the level of correspondence between the contents of the relevant foreign degree and the equivalent Spanish degree is acceptable, regardless of whether such degree allows its holder to pursue post-graduate courses in the country where it was issued. Access through this path shall not imply, in any case, that the previous degree has been recognised for any other `purpose other than taking this Master's Degree.
  • Having an appropriate academic record.
  • Passing the relevant admission tests. Such tests consist on a personal interview with the Master's Programme Director (or the person appointed by them), where the student's motivations for choosing this programme shall be analysed and their academic record reviews. The decision on whether to admit a candidate, considering the recommendations resulting from the personal interview, weighed as 60%, and the average mark in the student's academic record, weighted as 40% of final assessment.
  • Other personal circumstances may also be considered when they may be helpful to assess whether the candidate is likely to successfully complete the programme.
  • Students with disability interested in this Master's Degree shall be provided, when requested, direct and personalised attention by the Social Work Unit, which has developed, among other things, a Support Programme for Students with Disability.

Fees

Price of the Master's: €13,305.

Course fees: €2,235.

Monthly installments: 10 x €1,107.

Objectives

The Official Master´s in Financial Statement Auditing and Advanced Accounting is organized by IBS and is approved by the ICAC and ANECA as theoretical training courses audit waiving the first phase of qualification examination the Official Register of Auditors - ROAC.

Its main objective is the specialized and professional training in audit and accounting superior.

It is aimed at graduates who have a professional interest in auditing and accounting or already working in these areas, they want to obtain greater specialization.

Once finished the Master, graduates may exercise their activity in any audit firm in internal audit positions or jobs related to accounting management companies in any other sector.

Methodology

Teaching on the Master's program involves a combination of lectures, presentations, seminars and individual tutorials. Here, the students make presentations and take part in structured debates.

The formal contact hours with the tutor are supplemented by self-study hours, where students have the opportunity to assess themselves and gain a greater insight into the proposed topics.

“The Official Master's Degree in Account Auditing and Accounting is a degree recognised by the Account Auditing and Accounting as being exempt of the undergoing the theoretical ROAC access exam.

This Master's Degree comprises 60 ECTS credits plus a 12 ECTS credit additional module for complementary training. Such credits are distributed as follows:

 

In-person lessons are estimated to be concluded in the last weeks of June. Extraordinary exams shall be take place in July.

Language

All subjects shall be taught in Spanish, although some learning activities may involve using English in seminars, case studies or in-person activities taught in this language. Besides, students may be required to read papers, reports, case studies or other relevant materials written in English.

* This schedule may vary for specific groups depending on different accounting firms, either to mornings from 9 am to 6:30 pm or to weekends.

The goal of our internships is to provide our students with an opportunity to alternate theoretical learning with professional practice, and to enter the labour market at the conclusion of the programme having acquired at least some professional experience.

Professional practice in the form of an external Internship is a compulsory subject in this Official Master's Degree syllabus, which the students must take. As a compulsory subject, it is be subject to evaluation and assigned a mark.

In general, internships are taken during the second semester. Minimum duration of practices is 3 weeks. It is the intention of this programme that such internships are paid, although the final decision shall be for the company that offers the Internship position.

Graduate profile. Career prospects

The graduate from this program will have obtained the skills, professional competencies and knowledge pertinent to a specialist in Auditing and Accountancy.

The career prospects of our postgraduates include not only positions linked to finacial or auditing companies, but also positions linked to accounting management of companies in any sector, including internal auditor positions.

The comprehensive training provided on the Master´s not only equips the students with the skills, competencies and technical knlowledge described, but also with the ability to understand and analyze the main moral, ethical, professional conduct and civic issues at present. This comprehensive training fosters the development of attitudes and values that uphold high levels of professional quality in any field related to the degree.
