The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (Comillas CIHS) presented the Awards for the best End-of-Degree Projects in STEM Education for the academic year 2021-2022. The main objective of the awards is to contribute to the development of high-quality STEM education for all. This is possible thanks to companies such as Cognizant and Iberdrola, sponsors of the awards.

The event was opened by the dean of the faculty, Susanne Cadera. Javier Barroso, director of digital experience and engineering at Cognizant, and Guilllermo Rivas, from the Human Resources team at Iberdrola, pointed out the value of the work carried out by the Bachelor’s Degrees in STEM/STEAM education and its impact on future generations of children.

The Cognizant Award for the best End-of-Degree Project in STEM education went to Carmen Tortosa de Lucas, a graduate in Primary Education, for her work: “ApoSTEMos por el talento: sembrar para investigar”. The Iberdrola Award for the best End-of-Degree Porject in STEM education went to Silvia Alvarado Martín, a graduate in Primary Education, for her work “Metodologías activas para la Educación STEM: Experiencia de formación ApoSTEMos en Turkana”.

The awarded students presented their End-of-Degree Projects in a dialogued discussion, justifying the choice of their innovation proposals. Eight students entered the call for entries, committed to developing original, innovative and rigorous projects within the STEM education framework. Before the award ceremony, Àngel Alsina i Pastells, professor of didactics of mathematics at the University of Girona, gave a presentation in which he explained how to promote the development of mathematical literacy from the STEM/STEAM perspective, giving examples of interdisciplinary proposals carried out in Early Childhood Education and Primary Education schools.
