The university continues its commitment to holistic ecology
Comillas Sostenible encourages the use of reusable containers and improves plastic waste management
Comillas Pontifical Universityis commited to integral ecology, responsible consumption and recycling, in line with Pope Francis' encyclical Laudato Si and the Sustainable Development Goals. Comillas is moving forward with an initiative to reduce the use of plastic and improve waste management. On the occasion of World Recycling Day, and as part of the Comillas Sostenible programme, it presents a campaign to raise awareness and promote the use of reusable containers to avoid plastic.
Among the actions planned is the replacement of traditional plastic water bottles in cafeterias and vending machines with 100% recycled and recyclable plastic bottles; the replacement of plastic bottles with glass bottles and glasses at events; the improvement of the network of water fountains and the improvement of selective waste collection, increasing the number of collection points. In addition, on World Recycling Day, Comillas staff will be given reusable stainless steel bottles to encourage responsible and sustainable consumption.
This first step is part of a more ambitious plan, a strategic commitment to develop an ecological culture not only in the educational community, but also in society. The university has begun a path of no return of involvement with the Care for our Common Home, implementing different actions within the Comillas Sostenible programme, which are related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) developed by the United Nations to protect the environment.
