The talk "Energy Poverty. Who is left behind by energy transition?"
, given jointly by three members of the Chair of Energy and Poverty: Efraim Centeno (director), José Carlos Romero (coordinator) and Roberto Barrella (PhD candidate), was divided into four parts. Initially, the concept of energy poverty was introduced within the framework of the energy transition. Subsequently, the different indicators proposed to measure this phenomenon were presented, emphasising those standard metrics established by the EU Energy Poverty Observatory (EPOV). Afterwards, both structural and mitigating measures and actions, which are being implemented to tackle this problem, were pointed out. Special relevance was given to the proposals presented in the Spanish National Strategy against Energy Poverty. Finally, the Chair was presented, describing its genesis and future activities.
After an hour of presentation, the debate with the audience opened. Luis Hernández Vozmediano, director of Cáritas Madrid pointed out the urgent need to increase the level of social and institutional commitment to tackle this scourge that affects millions of people in our country.
