What is the Specialist in Educational Innovation in the Area of Foreign Languages: English?

The course Specialist in educational innovation in the area of foreign languages: English is a training program for those students who have completed the Specialist in Methodology and Assessment of English Teaching and Learning in the Classroom course and who wish to broaden their knowledge on didactics and innovation in foreign language teaching (in this case, English) to Spanish-speaking students.

It is a theoretical-practical program where the students can learn different methodological approaches within what is known as CLIL, along with a large emphasis on classroom practice which will help them to consolidate their knowledge and implement it in the classroom with real students and lecturers.

These studies help to consolidate knowledge and to put it into practice.

In this way, conversation assistants carry out a specialized course at the University that shows them how to carry out the planning of classes, the management of the classroom, different methods of teaching English grammar and preparation for Cambridge Exams.

The Comillas Degree in Specialist in Educational Innovation in the Area of Foreign Languages: English was approved by the Governing Board at the session held on 25 February 2013. However, it was necessary to modify the contents of the Degree.

To enroll in and carry out this program, it is mandatory to have previously obtained the degree in Specialist in Methodology and Assessment of English Teaching and Learning in the Classroom. The program is taught over a period of two years, by completing the following blocks during each academic year:

FIRST YEAR:
Block 1: Introduction to Innovation 3.0 ECTS  
Block 2: Innovative Methodologies Applied to English as a Foreign Language 7.0 ECTS  
Block 3: CLIL Methodology 10.0 ECTS  
Block 4: Language Teaching: Learning and Resources to be Used in the Classroom, Planning in Language Teaching, Classroom Management 3.0 ECTS  
Block 5: Practicum 7.5 ECTS  


Total credits for Theoretical-Practical Training Modules: 23 ECTS

 

Total credits Internships: 7.5 ECTS

 
SECOND YEAR:
Block 1: Final Project for the Degree and Preparation and Development of Training Workshops 15.0 ECTS  
Block 2: Innovative Methodologies Applied to English as a Foreign Language II 4.0 ECTS  
Block 3: CLIL Methodology II 3.0 ECTS  
Block 4: Practicum 7.5 ECTS  


Total credits for Theoretical-Practical Training Modules: 22 ECTS

 

Total credits Internships: 7.5 ECTS

 

The value awarded to an ECTS credit for Internships will be based on 20 hours of presence in an educational institution, plus 10 hours of self-directed and supervised work by the student, in addition to tutorial sessions.
