REGULATIONS

Elections for positions within Student Unions:

Every year and at the beginning of the academic year the student representatives will be chosen for faculty staff (varying number), for the faculty/school board (3 people) and for the senate (2 people). The delegates and sub-delegates from each group will be responsible for voting for the representatives although any student, regardless of having delegate or sub-delegate status, can run in the elections.

Afterwards, among the three students with the most votes for the faculty/school board, the delegate and sub-delegate of the center will be chosen, and these will be responsible for leading the student union for that center.

On the other hand, the student representatives in the senate will meet to choose among them the delegate and sub-delegate of the university, responsible for directing the student union of the university.

For further information, please request the "Regulations on Elections" booklet from the Dean's Office/Management of your center or from the Registry.

UNIVERSITY STRUCTURE

The faculties and schools are coordinated by several shared university bodies: the Academic Senate and Governing Board.

RECTOR

GOVERNING BOARD

Two students are involved: the university delegate and sub-delegate.
Operational body (16 people). They meet every month.
It approves the curricula, promotes lecturers, approves the academic calendar, creates new degrees, etc.

SENATE

14 students are involved, 2 from each center.
Large-scale body: all levels of the university are involved.
They are involved in the Rector's legislative process, comment on specific topics, etc. It is essentially an advisory body.

In each center:

The overriding authority within each faculty or school is that of the Dean or Director. With regard to governing bodies, the structure is similar and is composed of faculty staff and the faculty/school board.

DEAN / DIRECTOR

FACULTY / SCHOOL BOARD

Approves the center's general guidelines, draws up curricula, proposes appointments...
Few people are involved, although the number varies according to the faculty staff.
Three students are involved: two of which are the delegate and sub-delegate of the center

FACULTY STAFF

They participate in the appointment process of the Dean, propose activities, etc.
A varying number of students take part.
They meet up at least twice a year and it is a larger body than the faculty or school board.

STRUCTURE OF THE UNION

In the university:

The University Student Union is responsible for coordinating the unions of each center, channeling requests and suggestions, and sending information of interest to all centers.

UNION BOARD

It is made up of students involved in the senate as well as the delegates of each center. It appoints a secretary and treasurer, forms committees, suggests activities, makes decisions on certain issues, etc.

PERMANENT COMMITTEE

Made up of the university delegate and sub-delegate, the secretary, treasurer, coordinators of the committees and center delegates. It is responsible for resolving day-to-day issues of the union, and supervises the running of the committees.

In each center:

In each center (faculty or school), in line with the needs of students in that center, a student union works independently with the following structure:

UNION ASSEMBLY

Formed by the student representatives on the faculty / school board and faculty staff, together with group delegates. It appoints a secretary and treasurer, forms committees, suggests activities, makes decisions on certain issues, etc.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Varying in size, the center delegates and sub-delegates, secretary, treasurer and committee coordinators will be involved. It is responsible for resolving day-to-day issues of the union, and supervises the running of the committees.

Función tutorial

Each class group has a designated lecturer from the corresponding faculty or school to act in the capacity of tutor. This tutor is usually a lecturer who delivers classes to the group and is therefore close and easily accessible to the students.

Tutors play a crucial role in assisting with the integration of students in university life, thereby significantly reducing the possibility of academic failure which is so widespread in other universities.

The main responsibilities of tutors are:

  • Regularly organize meetings with all students in the group
  • Monitor the academic performance of students
  • Detect special circumstances of students, which are reflected in lack of attendance, poor academic performance, difficulties with a certain subject, etc. The tutor meets with the student in these circumstances in order to assess the situation and propose the most appropriate measures
  • The tutor acts as a communication channel between students and the Head of Studies on group-related issues: timetables, lecturers, subjects, exam timetable, facilities, etc.

Tutoring action plans are one of the distinctive attributes of our university which guarantee the academic success of our students. Coordinated by the Head of Studies, tutors work in teams to prevent difficulties, to share action strategies and to put new solutions into practice for emerging problems.

On this page you will find general information for managing internships in the university, as well as informative documents regarding internship agreements. In addition, on each faculty, school or office's web page, you will find more detailed further information and procedures.
