The Pastoral Directive “The Church, at the Service of the Poor” is presented at Comillas, with references to poverty, solidarity and corruption
The President of the Episcopal Commission for Social Pastoral Service in the Episcopal Conference, Mons. Juan José Omella, confirmed at the University that “Bishops are afflicted by the suffering of people, above all during this economic crisis and crisis in values, because we witness pain very close to us”.
Omella, the Bishop of Calahorra and la Calzada-Logroño, enumerated at Comillas ICAI-ICADE, along with the Rector, Julio L. Martínez, SJ, and Professors José Manuel Aparicio and José Manuel Caamaño, the main aspects of the Pastoral Directive “The Church, at the Service of the Poor”, published on April 24. The Bishop rejected criticism that is aimed at the Church concerning the members of the clergy who do not confront the theme of poverty. “All of the Bishops in our dioceses have dealt intensely with this theme in our pastoral letters”, he emphasized.
