The 2017 Family Report by the University Institute for the Family is presented, based on data collected in the Autonomous Region of Madrid

Informe Familia 2Although 70.4% of Spaniards have a stable partner and marriage is the main form of cohabitation, the economic crisis or the care of family members prevents four out of ten people from starting a home, according to the 2017 Family Report that the University Institute of the Family at the Universidad Pontificia Comillas ICAI-ICADE has developed in the Autonomous Region of Madrid with the sponsorship of the “Casa de la Familia” Foundation and the support of the Archbishopric of Madrid.

This study - which points out trends that - although observed in the Madrid region, may be an indicator of characteristics shared by Spanish society - demonstrates that economic difficulties in the home make family life worse. "Economic vulnerability increases both educational difficulties and pessimism, heightens discontent with children, reduces social activity and makes decision-making more unequal," said Fernando Vidal, Director of the Institute for the Family at Comillas ICAI-ICADE as well as the Family Report 2017.
