In this course there are students from the United States, China, Poland or Denmark
The Master´s Program in International and European Business Law (MIEBL) has entered its 6th year and we welcomed students from the United States, China, Poland and Denmark. The MIEBL has continued to expand the number of concurrent exchange and visiting student programs with U.S. law schools, and this year we´re pleased to have with us students from our newest exchange partner, Ohio State University Moritz College of Law. In addition, we also extend a very warm welcome to visiting students from Columbia Law School and Stanford Law School.
We have several academically enriching opportunities planned for this edition of the MIEBL. Students will once again travel to Brussels and Luxemburg as part of their class on EU Government to visit with policy makers and see first-hand how the EU institutions intersect with international and European business law. In Brussels, students visit the European Commission and Parliament, where they learn about legislative processes and focus on the Commission´s work on competition and state aid cases, two important areas of the EU´s regulatory powers. Students will also visit the U.S. Mission to the EU to learn about bilateral trade negotiations and spend a morning at Clifford Chance´s Brussels office to talk about the global practice of law. Another highlight of the trip is always our visit to the European Court of Justice (ECJ) In Luxemburg, where we attend a hearing and afterwards meet with an ECJ judge and his Law Clerk, who is also a professor of European procedural law in the MIEBL program.
To strengthen our commitment to practice-oriented learning, we´ve launched this year a program called “Lunch with Partners,” in which students will meet over lunch with a partner from an international firm to network and discuss lawyering skills. And for the second year, we´re offering students the extracurricular option to participate in a mediation practicum as part of our focus on developing alternative dispute resolution skills.
We have a lot of other exciting opportunities and programs this year within the MIEBL and at Universidad Pontificia Comillas Faculty of Law, and we´re thrilled to have your students here with us. We look forward to a continued and productive relationship between our Law Schools and hope to see you soon in Madrid.
