The Official Master's Degree in International Migration is taught in the University Institute of Studies on Migration (IUEM) and has been an official course at Comillas Pontifical University since 2008-2009.

During this time, the IUEM has prepared highly skilled professionals to develop their professional careers in he area of International Migration.

This Master's uses the blended learning method that consists of the combining the online system (virtual classes and online tutorial tools, like face to face tutorials, forums, video tutorials, etc.) with a system of face to face classes. This face to face week is held during the last week in February and classes for subjects relating to research methodology are taught and face to face tutorial sessions are held with the students.

The student's comprehensive training is completed with professional internships guaranteed in national and international bodies.

Moreover, the Official Master's Degree in International Development Cooperation offers the possibility of admission to the Official Doctorate Program in International Migration and Development Cooperation.

Admission profile:

The Master is aimed at all kinds of graduates, recent graduates students, academics, professionals from the business world, researchers and staff of international organizations who wish to professionalize and improve their professionalism in the field of international migration and human mobility as well as students who want to develop their research capacity in this field.

Entry requirements:
  • Possession of a Bachelor degree or equivalent.
  • Have a good academic record.
  • Previous professional experience in international migration will be assessed.
  • Knowing at least one other language, preferably English.
Admission process:
  • Register online admission portal;
  • Fill out the application to file and download the online admission test;
  • Deliver documentation, online admission test and the application printed and signed by hand or by mail / courier in the Service of Academic Titles and General Secretariat of the Universidad Pontificia Comillas Management. C / Alberto Aguilera, 23 28015 Madrid.
  • Study phase: upon receipt of the application and documentation, candidates will proceed to the stage: "Study of the application"
  • Communication from the resolution: the resolution on the admission shall be communicated to interested besides mail sent to email indicated in the petition. The candidate may also track the status of their application through the Admissions Portal.

The admission criteria and their weighting in the overall requirements are:

  • Academic record (40%).
  • Resume and cover letter. At this point you take into account professional experience in the field of migration in order to compensate deficiencies regarding recommended academic profile (up 30%).
  • Knowledge of different language to that in which the master, B2 level curse (up 15%).
  • Test access (up to 15%).

Admission to the master is competitive. In any case a weighted average rating of at least 7 out of 10 is required.

Fees:

The amount of the full fee of the Master is € 6,420.00. broken down into:

  • Tuition and fees full secretarial course: € 1,884.00.
  • 8 monthly installments of € 567.00 each.

Objectives:
  • Providing a multidisciplinary perspective of human migration.
  • Teaching and training the persons who will be involved directly with migrants and the agents involved in the process of research and innovation in this field.
  • Contributing to the search for practical solutions and to international cooperation in migration management on a global scale.
Methodology:
  • The education system blended learning mode combines online with face sessions. This system online platform Moodle (Virtual Campus) accessible from the Internet and manages and is fully developed through which students have access to a learning community where diverse career paths are also shared.
  • This system is combined with a series of tutorials conducted by videoconferencing systems, skype or similar and teleseminar addition to the sessions to be held during the actual week. Thus the student has the comfort of classroom study without obligation, without losing the personal touch with the teacher and the course coordinator.

INTERNSHIP 6 ECTS

  • External internship in one of the institutions that has an educational cooperation agreement with the Universidad Pontificia Comillas. Students complete a direct internship and prepare a report on this experience. Besides, students are assessed by the organization on which they were interns and by the Internship Coordination 

Compulsory professional internships in public or private organizations complement the students' academic training and allow them to get a first idea of the reality of migrations, thus fostering their integration in this area. The goal is that, by getting students in contact with the actual representation of those issues studied from a theoretical approach, students develop those skills and capabilities acquired throughout the Master's Programme, development which is also part of the learning process. External internship in one of the institutions that has an educational cooperation agreement with the Universidad Pontificia Comillas. Students complete a direct internship and prepare a report on this experience. Besides, students are assessed by the organization on which they were interns and by the Internship Coordination.

The Official Master's Degree in International Migration addresses the need to have professional experts in the different fields regarding migration, which is a multi-faceted phenomenon and requires training in a complex, specific set of skills.

Graduate Profile

Students acquire the necessary competences to carry out an analysis of the different scopes of action and policy making implicit in contemporary migration processes. Specialised training is provided for analysing, comparing, assessing and carrying out diagnoses on the migratory reality on which we are immersed. Graduates may either work on non-governmental organizations which carry out intervention processes or in public and private organizations which provide advice, studies, analyses and funding to immigration related products. Besides, the postgraduate degree provides access to the Official Doctorate Program in International Migration and Development Cooperation.
