For more than fifty years Comillas Pontifical University ICAI-ICADE has trained legal professionals of the highest level. The Official Master's Degree in Intellectual Property (10th edition), is the first official Master's Degree in Spain on Intellectual Property (2007) and has attained the height of academic recognition among professionals in the intellectual property and new technologies sector.

The Official Master's Degree in Corporate Law is only offered within the program for the Dual Master's Degree for Admission to the Bar and Corporate Law for the 2017-2018 academic year.

The level of entry to the professional world for graduates of the program is very high. The opportunities for graduates are numerous: law firms with intellectual property departments, industrial and new technologies; rights management organisations; in rights management, legal and finance and intellectual property departments; in music, audiovisual, media, audiovisual production companies record companies, publishers among others, or in computer program or database development companies.

Applicant profile:

The students admitted to the postgraduate program in previous academic years (Official Master's Degree and Advanced Program in Intellectual Property) have displayed a high academic and curricular level, generating a qualitative and progressive improvement of the course of study.

The selection process is paramount to maintain the quality of the postgraduate-level teaching of the Official Master's Degree in Intellectual Property. The scope of protection and specialization concerning intellectual property (based on the legal and economic content, the presence of new technologies on the subject of intellectual property) means that the students are now expected meet the following academic profile:

  • Law Graduates;
  • Holders of a Licentiate Degree in Business Administration and Management;
  • Or advanced university degree holders in Industrial Engineering and IT.

Another important part of the selection process is to meet other academic and professional requirements and qualifications as well as knowledge of another language.

The fees of the Access to Advocacy + Master's Program in Intellectual Property amount to € 26,390 broken down into:

  • First academic year: € 16,889.60.
    • Full course registration and secretarial rights: € 2,609.60.
    • Diez monthly payments of € 1,428.00 each
  • Second academic year: € 9,500.40.
    • Full course registration and secretarial rights: € 1,467.90.
    • Five monthly installments of € 1,606.50 each.

If you are an alumni, you are entitled to 10% discount to be applied to your last installment.

Our Master's program envisages the possibility of applying for grants.

Any Mexican students admitted onto our Master's program whose studies are funded by FIDERH will receive a scholarship from Comillas equivalent to 10% of the total fees of the course of study in which they are enrolled.

Over the past two decades, the new technologies have diversified the factors involved in the creation, production and operation of intellectual property works, generating more complex systems to protect these rights. In this respect, the music, audiovisual, computer, multimedia, Internet, publishing, biotechnology, and other sectors that are at the forefront of this great revolution have an increasing need for professionals specialized in intellectual property. These circumstances lead to a high and significant social, economic and legal prevalence, highlighting a growing demand for legal professionals, economists and engineers, capable of providing skilled services through the application of knowledge and this regulatory content.

To such end, the aim of the Official Master's Degree in Intellectual Property in terms of learning objectives for the students includes:

  • Enhancing the legal, economic and technical training of students, so that they may adapt to the real needs of companies, firms and organizations working in the field of intellectual property, specifically in the new market environment.
  • Delving, in an integrated manner, into the legal, economic and technological areas of knowledge required for the specialized management that these rights demand in their various fields.
  • Learning and receiving training from top professionals in the field of intellectual property on the theoretical content and practical application of sections of the program with regard to the complex and conflicting reality of the sector.
  • Gaining professional experience through academic internships in a company or institution directly related to the scope of protection of intellectual property rights, while implementing and consolidating their acquired knowledge, always under the guidance of an experienced professional from the firm, company or institution where they conduct their internship.

The Official Master's Degree in Intellectual Property is an academic postgraduate program comprising the teaching ofthe specific course content as well as thepractical applications of the knowledge acquired, which help the students to integrate what they have learned and specialize in the professional field of intellectual property. It is complemented with anacademic internshipwithin the most relevant management bodies, firms and companies in the sector.


The assessment method is related to the learning system configured for the Master's program. The final grade is obtained by evaluating different factors stated as percentages for each subject module: practical work carried out during the lectures, class participation, group work, assessment of written tests and of the academic internship completed, as well as of a Master's Dissertation or Project.

The Official Master's Degree in Intellectual Property encompasses a comprehensive and rigorous training program covering legal and economic aspects of the protection of intellectual property, as well as new technical resources.

The program's module-based structure ensures progressive acquisition of knowledge, first from a general perspective mowing on to the domestic and international systems of intellectual property protection in each specific area, i.e. publishing, music, dramatic, audiovisual, computer and multimedia works and the Internet, with a specific section on biotechnology, and the study of the economic analysis of these intellectual property rights. Achieving a comprehensive and professional training by incorporating the academic internship program, which is conducted in professional firms, companies and organizations specialized in the management of intellectual property. Hence, the program's clarity and coherence is guaranteed.

The program content is divided into basic topic blocks on intellectual property, with an academic training allocation of 60 ECTS credits (academic credits under European postgraduate regulations).

  • A general section covering Spanish, European and international rules and regulations.
  • The study of the powers and functions of the intellectual property right management entities, including organizations such as AISGE, EGEDA, VEGAP, AIE, CEDAR, SGAE, which are the most relevant in and outside Spain.
  • The study of copyright and related rights conducted by professionals specialized in each sector, including book publishing; musical, dramatic, audiovisual, computer and multimedia works; and the internet.
  • Also, the undeniable influence of the new technologies is included in a complex section that focuses on the study of intellectual property in biotechnological innovation.
  • Likewise, an equally essential and useful part of this program is the one about the economic analysis of intellectual property rights, taught by leading lecturers and researchers specializing in the economic analysis of Law.
  • To complete this comprehensive theoretical and practical course of study, which is required of a Master's level program such as this one, the students must complete an academic internship period within organizations and firms in the sector, as well as a Master's dissertation or project that encompasses all the content learned.
