The Worldwatch Institute presents at Comillas a book that urges a change in the educational model to another which is "ecosocial"
We must be aware that stopping climate change at this point is very difficult. One of the solutions we have left to, at least, mitigate its effects and, in the worst case scenario, to stop environmental degradation, is for young children to receive a proper education with a focus on ecology. This is what Erik Assadourian, a Senior Fellow at the Worldwatch Institute, calls "eco-literacy."
"The main reason I focus on Education is because there is no reason to believe that we will solve the environmental crisis," said Assadourian during the presentation of the book "Ecosocial Education. How to Educate in the Face of the Ecological Crisis ", of which he is the Coordinator. This American researcher stressed that the fragility of the climate system is causing increasingly frequent disasters and lamented the inevitable fact that glaciers will disappear from the Arctic or that Greenland has already suffered a rise in sea level of one meter as a result of the increase of temperatures during the last century. "The level of the seas and oceans will rise four meters or more during this century and the next; in places like Florida or whole countries like Bangladesh, it will be impossible to live", he warned.
